I have seen so many status update on my feed showing many people are not liking the new facebook  site.  I was one of the early adopters as I usually am with most technology and at first I really did not like it.  But as I used it more I really grew to appreciate all the work they put into it.  Here is a list of the things I really, really like about it.

1)    Applications.  I was really annoyed by profiles that scrolled forever with funwall and superwall, and bumper stickers.  The reason I preferred facebook over myspace was because facebook did not give too much control to the people over their profile.  I hatred people who had pink backgrounds with grey text and stuff like that.  We are not all designers and most people have no idea how to use CSS and make it look good.  So when the new facebook got rid of the applications on the profile pages I was thrilled!
2)    The live feed.  Have you ever just had the live feed open and sit there and see things just pop up on it?  I was bored on day and sat and watched for 10 minutes as people updated their profile or pictures or comments.  This is a really cool feature., and for those in the web industry we can imagine how much work went into something like this.
3)    The reorganization of all the data on the profile pages.  I like how they have separated your info and you wall and what not on the profile page.  It makes the profile pages a lot cleaner.
4)    Less pervasive advertising.  Although I do pay for ads on facebook, I like the fact they do not have their ads as pervasive as other social sites.  I know Mark Zuckerberg could probably make a lot more money with facebook with larger ads and more ads in more places, but I think he sees the big picture and the role that facebook plays on the internet today and in the future.  Kudos to him.  He will still be rich in the end ☺
5)    Placement of the applications menu.  Have the apps at the bottom like a dock is another great idea.  Now only if they could animate that and make it more OSX like ☺

I know people are often opposed to change when it comes to the internet, but I really have to say this change was for the good and people will grow to appreciate it when they look back a year from now.
